Expensive weddings

This blog paid tribute to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce on their recent wedding in Madison Square Garden. The power duo have been conspicuously mum on their budget. Experts claim they spent at least $20 million and as much as $50 million. Amazingly, theirs is ‘only’ the 9th most expensive wedding in history. The Visual Capitalist ranked the top 10 most expensive weddings in history in today’s dollars:

The top 10 most expensive weddings in history

1. Khadijah Uzhakhova to Said Gutseriev

This son of a Russian oil oligarch blew through $1.4 Billion of his father’s petty cash in his 2016 wedding.

2. Radhika Merchang to Anant Ambani

This couple from Mumbai, India, enjoyed a multi day wedding celebration that ran somewhere between $641 Million and $1.1 Billion. His dad is chairman of Reliance Industries.

3. Diana Spencer to Prince Charles

Most readers of this blog have heard of the legendary Princess Di who died in a tragic car accident nearly three decades ago. And prince Charles is now King Charles. Their $176 million wedding sadly ended in divorce.

4. Isha Ambani to Anand Piramal.

Another high-powered couple from Mumbai spent $133 million on their wedding vows.

5. Vanisha Mittal to Amit Bhatia

Another opulent wedding for a rich couple from India, this one racking up a $106 million price tag.

6. Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano to Prince Felipe of Spain

The prince, now King Felipe, and Letizia had a ‘cozy’ little wedding in the $43 to $62 million range.

7. Meghan Markle to Prince Harry of Great Britain.

The American actress, once a staple on the American television series, “Suits,” snagged herself a prince who spent $60 million on their wedding.

8. Lauren Sanchez to Jeff Bezos (above)

Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, spent $48 to $56 million on their 2025 wedding in Venice.

9. Taylor Swift to Travis Kelce

10. Kate Middleton to Prince William

Their $49 million wedding seems like a bargain in contrast to Meghan and Harry’s, especially in light of all the shenanigans pulled by the latter couple. Go figure!

For regular folks, the price is a lot less!

For us regular folks, the price of a wedding is considerably less, averaging $28,000 in Ohio, $38,000 in Maryland, and $24,000 in Tennessee as three examples according to The Knot.
