Weddings are a foundational element of our culture. Singer/actress Jennifer Lopez loves weddings so much she’s done it not once, not twice … but four times! Her new music video, “Can’t Get Enough,” (above) pokes fun at her marital history.
Ms. Lopez’s first hubby was actor/producer, Ojani Noa, followed by dancer Cris Judd, singer Marc Antony, and most recently Ben Affleck. Peppered in between her altar calls were a series of relationships, and even engagements, with a series of high profile men including rapper Sean Combs and baseball star Alex Rodriguez.
Whew! Busy girl.
“Can’t Get Enough”
Her new music video of “Can’t Get Enough” (above) shows her marrying a series of men as her guests pass judgment on her prolific marital status. The video ends with a somber Lopez reflecting on the criticisms she’s endured through the years.
So is the song any good? Some people will love it for the uptempo, danceable beat. Coupled with Ms. Lopez’s engaging vocal chops and extraordinary dance choreography, that’s all you may need.
The production value of the video is sumptuous.
On the other hand, do you want a song played at your wedding whose theme is marriage/divorce/marriage/divorce etc, etc, etc?
Lopez and her writing team didn’t spend a lot of time fussing over the lyrics on “Can’t Get Enough.” They are trite and repetitive.
“On My Way”
If you want a Jennifer Lopez vibe at your wedding, you’re better to go with her song, “On My Way,” from her movie, “Marry Me.” It features a lovely lyric:
“And every heartbreak was a yellow brick road
Pointing me straight, just taking me home
I was never lost, I was just passing through
I was on my way to you.”
The timeless Ms. Lopez shows she’s still got it with her new release. But save “Can’t Get Enough” for another occasion.
