Columbus Pro DJs focuses on English language songs for weddings. There are a ton of them, and we have shared an eclectic compendium of these songs on the pages of our blog. Today, let’s look at the top foreign love songs for weddings.
La Vie En Rose
One of the all-time great French love songs is “La Vie En Rose”, popularized by Edith Piaf and since covered by dozens of singers on both sides of the Atlantic. Andre Bocelli sings it above. The english translation of the lyrics are lovely:
“Hold me close and hold me fast,
The magic spell you cast,
This is la vie en rose.
When you kiss me, Heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes,
I see la vie en rose.”
Con the partio [Time to Say Goodbye]
This Italian song is so good that it plays along with the fountains at the Bellagio hotel & casino in Las Vegas. The lyrics are kind of sappy, but Andre Bocelli and Sara Brightman join forces to give them heft in an English/Italian version of the song above.
Not a bad song to play to bring your wedding celebration to a dramatic conclusion, as the words “time to say goodbye” resound through our beautiful, high-end sound system.
Quand on n’a que l’Amour (If We Only Have Love)
Belgian singer/actor/songwriter Jacques Brel wrote this dramatic love song, notable for its searing, romantic lyrics. He was huge in Belgium and France, and his fame eventually spread worldwide.
Even without understanding the lyrics, you get a pretty good feel for what the song is about through the power of the vocals and music. But here’s a sampling of the lyrics, translated into English:
If we only have love
To embrace without fears,
We will kiss with our eyes,
We will sleep without tears.
There’s no shortage of awesome English songs. But perhaps you might want to shake things up with a top foreign love song for weddings from overseas.
