The new movie, “Nobody 2,” stars Bob Odenkirk in an explosive, violent action movie. You may know him from his performances in “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul.” We’re not here to review or endorse the film one way or the other. But we will endorse the soundtrack, which features three love songs that are delightful blasts from the past.
You may not know them, but we think you’ll enjoy sampling them.
“The Good Life”
The movie opens with the 1962 song, “The Good Life,” playing as a new day dawns for the family of the Odenkirk character. The melody is an upbeat, swinging big band treatment sung by Jose James in a 2025 recording.
The lyrics are sneaky. It teases that the good life is all about superficiality, before squashing the notion in the final verse with the acknowledgement that the good life is found in his lover.
If you’re into ball room dancing and big bands, this would be a fun song for your wedding celebration.
“The Power of Love”
After a tumultuous opening for the Odenkirk character, his phone rings with a dial tone to the melody of “The Power of Love.” Needless to say, the song re-emerges at a climactic moment when Connie Nielsen’s character, Odenkirk’s wife, saves the day and Celine Dion’s 1993 recording saturates the sky with an ode to love:
“Cause I’m your lady,
And you are my man;
Whenever you reach me,
I’ll do all that I can.”
Great wedding song!
“More Today Than Yesterday”
One more song deserves honorable mention from the “Nobody 2” soundtrack: “More Today Than Yesterday.”
In the movie, it pops up on the radio as the family leaves on vacation. The refrain is so incredibly catchy that before you know it, they’re all singing along to it. As you listen, you may think it’s Stevie Wonder singing it. In fact, it was recorded by a group called Spiral Staircase in 1969.
It’s a delightful, uptempo love song perfect for packing a dance floor at your wedding.
