Reddit wedding couples recommend professional DJs

Reddit wedding couples

A couple were planning a destination wedding in South of France. They went on Reddit asking for advice on whether or not to get a professional DJ.

A lot of people commented, but emphasized that France isn’t the U.S. We were gratified for the outpouring of support on the merits of going with a professional DJ company for U.S. weddings. Many emphasized that we do more than just play a playlist:

“Remember that the DJ does more than just play music, they’re also the emcee and direct guests during transition periods and special moments. They also bring their own sound systems and lights for the dance floor.”

Both points are critical. Wedding celebrations need to flow. They flow best with coordination with other vendors, which is what we do. And then top professionals like us know how to MC the actual introductions and key moments of each, unique celebration to create a seamless evening of fun.

One woman wrote about a wedding she attended where hardly anyone danced:

“It probably didn’t help that they also had AV issues and from time to time the music would cut out and someone would have to go fiddle with it, but still. They might have loved the jams, but they didn’t seem to get anybody up out of their seats.”

Nothing worse than to have equipment malfunction ruin a wedding celebration. A company like Columbus Pro DJs  brings high-end equipment to each event that’s reliable AND produces beautiful sound. We have back up equipment available in the unlikely event of an issue.

You need more than just a playlist

Some people think that all they need for their wedding is a Spotify playlist. Nothing could be further from the truth, as another woman noted:

“I went to a wedding where they just played a Spotify playlist through the speaker. The dance floor was completely dead and many people left early.

A good DJ doesn’t just play music, they keep the crowd energized/on their feet and can get the party going if it’s slow. A Spotify playlist won’t do that for you.”

Our DJs know how to read a crowd, a critical skillset as others remarked on:

“We had a [professional] DJ at our wedding and it was 100% worth it. They did way more than press play, they read the room, adjusted on the fly, and kept the energy high all night.”

“Friend’s wedding last year is the sole reason we … felt it was important for us to book a DJ … They did a Spotify playlist of all their faves, but the dance floor never picked up for even a moment. There were two or three martyrs on the dance floor trying their best, but the room was a big no.

Sometimes it’s more important to play to the vibe and the crowd rather than just focus on all the songs you like. A DJ will make sure there is plenty of stuff that will get you excited, but usually you’ve got a lot of age groups in the mix and sometimes the stuff that has you singing at the top of your lungs isn’t necessarily the stuff that’ll have a group shaking their ass, ya know?

A DJ will be able to see how things are going, pivot as necessary, and ensure whatever you do (or sometimes more importantly, do not) want played is adhered to while also getting the room going.”

Ultimately, a company like Columbus Pro DJs specializes in weddings. We know what works because we’ve done so many. You can relax and enjoy the fun of your own event knowing the equipment, music, and DJ/MC are all totally reliable and top-end. Check us out to see if we’re available for your event.
