Two music giants were just in the news. Country star Toby Keith passed away last week after a cancer battle. And R & B star, Usher, performed at the Super Bowl halftime show.
Mr. Keith was a big deal in country music circles, selling over 40 million albums. Although he never had a chance to sing during the Super Bowl halftime show, he did an opening song for Monday Night Football in 1993, performing a modified version of his hit song, “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” (below):
His fans weren’t very happy that Usher or the Super Bowl offered no tribute to Toby Keith. For example here is one comment made on X (Twitter)
“… still waiting for the Toby Keith tribute during this HalfTime show …”
Guess you can’t please everyone.
“Rock You Baby”
For purposes of this blog, we’re always on the look out for good first dance wedding songs. Perhaps the ultimate Toby Keith wedding song is, “Rock You Baby” (above). Here’s a sampling of the lyrics:
“If this is how love is supposed to feel,
Baby, I know I’ve fallen head over heels,
I’m going to rock you baby.”
If you dig a romantic, slow dance for your first wedding dance, this is a fine option.
“Without You”
As for Usher, his songs need a little more scrutiny as his lyrics are not always appropriate for Aunty Gladys and young, impressionable ears. We like his 2011 track, “Without You” (above) for a catchy, uptempo first dance song.
His lyrics work for weddings:
“I can’t win, I can’t reign,
I will never win this game without you.”
Usher likes to take his shirt off when he sings, as he did at the Super Bowl, and as he does above. We recommend the groom keep his on if you go with an Usher song, but that’s up to you!
