Even hardcore rap music fans have heard of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In a shockingly brief career, he wrote some of the most majestic music of all time. Even today, Mozart wedding music is requested for wedding ceremonies.
2nd greatest composer of all time?
Classic FM ranks Mozart as the #2 all time greatest classical music composer, behind only Bach. Despite writing such ‘high brow’ music, Mozart himself was anything but elegant. In fact, the 1984 Academy Award winning film, “Amadeus,” portrayed him as being downright coarse, which is supported by historical accounts of the maestro. Watch the clip below:
Okay … so which of his 1200 compositions should you consider for your wedding ceremony?
How about the “March of the Priests” from his opera, The Magic Flute?
Lovely.
For a processional, how about “The Wedding March” from The Marriage of Figaro?
And it’s nice and short, a little more than two minutes.
For a longer processional song to accommodate a large wedding party, you can’t surpass Mozart’s majestic “Laudate Dominum”:
For your recessional, you can’t beat the exuberant “Eine kleine Nachtmusik,” which translates into “a little night music.”
Needless to say, this list barely scratches the surface of great Mozart wedding music. But Herr Mozart was one of the great music geniuses of all time. He would compose the music in his head and then simply write it down without error, or dictate it to a transcriber as you can see in this scene from Amadeus as the dying Mozart dictates his last piece:
