We know a couple that had three weddings. The first was in the coastal city in which they lived. The second was in Mexico from where he came. And the third was half a continent away in her Midwest home town. We’re reminded of them in light of the latest silliness that popped up on Reddit promoting ‘his and her’ weddings.
Here’s how the Reddit author explained it:
“Cliffnotes version is: she wants a small wedding, he wants a big wedding. Instead of compromising or working together they’re each having their own wedding. They each have their own venue, staff hired, etc.”
And here’s the kicker: they EXPECT guests to attend both affairs. The author said that each would have their own wedding registry. (The couple to whom we referred at the outset did not expect guests to attend more than one event.)
The Reddit author concludes:
“They seem to be a solid relationship, but this seems to counteract the whole idea of marriage? Like if it’s about both of you joining together, why are you each having your own separate thing? Please tell me I’m not delusional lol.”
Spot on. You are NOT delusional. If a couple can’t find common ground on their first act of married life, what is their hope of reaching compromise when married life’s going gets tough?
Marriage is about US. This couple acts as if it’s only about ME. Bad way to start a marriage.
On the other hand, a very GOOD way to start a Columbus wedding celebration is with dance-floor-packing wedding entertainment as provided by Columbus Pro DJs.
