“Footloose” is a great dance song for weddings. It was the title song from the 1984 hit movie by the same name, starring Kevin Bacon.
Watch the young Bacon dance to it in the official music video above. In a recent interview, he said:
“My worst nightmare is to be at a wedding and the DJ puts on the music and the song [Kenny Loggins’ “Footloose”] comes on and suddenly the wedding becomes about me, and people form a circle around me and I become a trained monkey. So I’ve gone to the DJs and said, ‘Please don’t play that song.’ It’s not that I don’t like the song.”
You can’t blame a DJ and your wedding guests for wanting to see Bacon cut loose on the dance floor. Even at the age of 66, he still has some moves, as you can see in the video below:
Kenny Loggins wrote “Footloose,” which became a #1 hit song in 1984. The American Film Institute ranks it as one of the top 100 greatest songs to have ever appeared in a movie. Impressive!
The song is totally danceable, powered by the great lyrics as well as the beat:
“Cut loose,
Footloose,
Kick off the Sunday shoes!”

Loggins has had a storied career as singer/songwriter. He partnered with Jim Messina as part of Loggins & Messina, before embarking on a successful solo career. He doesn’t write just dance music. And he had a big hit with the ballad, “Danny’s Song.”
